How does ECO3 work?
The ECO initiative taps medium and large energy suppliers to help find the installation of energy-efficient measures in British homes.
Every supplier has a specific target set in place, depending on its shares in the UK. These suppliers become the go-to for homeowners to install energy-efficient measures into households, especially if the home needs fixing.
If an individual has been in a core customer group from scheme year nine, said individual is eligible to receive assistance through ECO.
People eligible receive one of these benefits:
- Armed forces independence payment
- Attendance allowance
- Carer’s allowance
- Child benefit
- Constant attendance allowance
- Disability living allowance
- Pension guarantee credit
- Income-related employment and support allowance
- Income-based jobseeker’s allowance
- Income support
- Industrial injuries disablement benefit
- Mobility supplement
- Personal independence payment
- Severe disablement allowance
- Tax credits
- Universal credit
Who can benefit from ECO3?
To benefit from the grant, one must own the home to be equipped with heating measures or have the landlord’s permission.
Most can benefit from the ECO3 grant, whoever the energy supplier might be. The grant does not prioritise any supplier in this matter. But not all suppliers or installers will agree to install energy-saving measures in your home, so it would be best to ask about the ECO scheme.
Note: In cases where you’re directly contacted by someone claiming to be an installer under the ECO scheme, it would be wise to follow up with a request to view the following credentials:
- PAS 2030:2017 accredited (this should be available publicly)
– Registration number
- Microgeneration Certification Scheme (if they are installing microgeneration measures)
– Registered on the MCS website
- Registered as “Gas Safe” if they are repairing or replacing a boiler (gas)
What are the benefits of ECO3 for heating?
Homeowners can benefit from three main heating solutions in the home. The first includes insulation of cavity walls, room-in-roof, attics and more, second, it provides installation or repair of boilers, and finally, central heating.
As of now, the ECO3 grant will run until the year 2022.
Through installing energy-efficient measures, it is expected that your energy bills will drop! As a plus, it also helps the environment out.
To check if you’re eligible for the grants, you need to get your property surveyed. The earlier your property is assessed at the beginning of the year, the more likely it is you will receive a grant. Once your application is approved, you can then request having energy-efficient measures installed in your home. This is done by contacting a local installation company to do this for you.
Make sure to contact a reliable and trustworthy installation service provider, like Euro Energy Group. With decades of experience and professionalism, you don’t have to worry about anything except
for lower electricity bills!
Who does not qualify for the ECO3 grant?
Unfortunately, a small percentage of UK homeowners will not be able to apply for the grant.
Unfortunately, if your household is not classified as a home in fuel poverty, you are not qualified for the grant.
Why is this the case?
The grant aims to help those who are struggling to heat their homes, especially during the colder seasons. Although the government would like to fund everyone, they can only support limited households annually. So a priority was created to help those that are most challenged during the winter.
