Can I get a boiler with the Green Homes Grant?
Are you confused about how Green Homes Grants work? Are you tired of sifting through conflicting information?
We have you covered!
You will find everything you need to know about the Green Homes Grant, how it operates, and whether you can get a new, fully paid boiler through it! By the end of the article, you’ll know all the basics you need to secure a grant for your home.
How does the Green Homes Grant UK work?
The government has recently Introduced the Green Homes Grant in the UK in a bid to improve energy efficiency in approximately 650,000 domestic homes in the country.
The aim of the grant is to promote sustainability and reduce current high levels of energy waste. The targeted measures include installing sustainable and renewable heating systems, improving lofts, floors, and even installing cavity walls.
What does this mean for you?
With an estimated budget of £2 billion, homeowners, as well as landlords, can now apply for a grant from September of 2020 until the end of March 2021. Both homeowners and landlords, if eligible, are then granted up to £5,000 for purchases and installations in the form of vouchers. Meanwhile, up to £10,000 is available to those in low-income or vulnerable households.
Unfortunately, this initiative will not cover newly built domestic properties and commercial properties under the current guidelines (if you’re not sure, feel free to give us a call to discuss).
If you’d like to find out if the grant covers your home and how you can take advantage of this opportunity, you can visit the gov.uk website or contact us and we’d be more than happy to advise. If you are a tenant, again you can contact Euro Energy Group, or ask your landlord for more details.
Are boilers covered in the Green Homes Initiative?
Many have been asking if boilers are included in the grant, especially since boilers are standard in the UK.
Unfortunately, the Green Homes Grant does not cover boilers and such.
The grant is focused on installing renewable heating systems, and sadly, boilers are not considered sustainable. Instead, you may opt for heat pumps and solar thermal panels. They last a lifetime and do not emit any carbon emissions in the atmosphere.
If you’re looking for a grant that covers boilers and their installation, the Energy Company Obligation Scheme (ECO3) can cover the cost of a brand new boiler instead!
Is the Green Homes Grant means-tested?
Yes, Eligibility for the grant is classed as means-tested.
Simply put, this means that the funding is calculated by finding two-thirds of your home’s total cost for improvements. So, a maximum of £5,000 for any regular household and up to £10,000 for those classified as low-income households is provided.
The Green Homes Grant is open to homeowners and landlords across England and the following types of properties are eligible:
- Owner-occupied homes (this includes shared ownerships and long-time leases)
- Domestic properties owned by private entity landlords
- Domestic properties owned by social sector landlords (this includes homes owned by local authorities)
- Park homeowners (such as static mobile home locations)
